Teen Accused of Violent Attacks

Police in Pontiac are going door to door in search of a suspected predator.  They’re looking for 17-year-old Dominique Mayes.  They say he has attacked one of his victims more than once.

Authorities believe he is responsible for two violent home invasions.  An elderly couple was attacked and an elderly woman raped.  All the victims were bound with duct tape.

He came in with an accomplice with a mask on, tied them up with duct tape… and stole money from them, then stole their vehicle, said Sergeant James Martinez.

Mayes has a criminal record.  He served time in jail for breaking into the same woman’s house that he is accused of raping.

Foster Parent Busted in Child Predator Sting

A 22-year old man is arrested in an undercover child predator sting. Police say they caught him soliciting sex to what he thought was a 14-year-old boy on the internet. As FOX 2’s Taryn Asher explains, the suspect is also a foster parent of two young boys.

The only thing that could make this verdict any better is the dealth penalty, unfortunately Michigan thinks justice is inhumane.

ANN ARBOR — A Washtenaw County jury has found Orange Taylor III guilty of murdering Eastern Michigan University student and Hastings native Laura Dickinson.

The jury deliberated for about four-and-a-half hours before returning the verdict in the December 2006 killing.

The jury also said Taylor was guilty of all counts against him.

Taylor, dressed in a dark suit with a blue shirt, stood quietly while the jury filed in and read the verdict.

Neither the Dickinson family nor the Taylor family had much visible reaction as the verdict was read.

It’s the second trial for Taylor, 21, who is charged with open murder and several other felonies. The first trial ended with a hung jury last fall.

Dickinson’s semi-nude body was found on the floor of her room on Dec. 15, 2006, on top of a blue blanket that police believe was pulled with her from the bed.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — A Washtenaw County jury has begun deliberating in the retrial of a 21-year-old man accused of raping and strangling a fellow Eastern Michigan University student in her dorm room.

Deliberations began Monday morning. Prosecutors on Friday rested their case against Orange Taylor III of Southfield, and defense attorneys rested without calling any witnesses and introducing one piece of evidence.

Taylor is charged with murder and other felonies in the December 2006 death of 22-year-old Laura Dickinson of Hastings. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.

His first trial ended in a hung jury.

The U.S. Education Department fined Eastern Michigan $357,500 for covering up the death. The case led to the removal of university President John Fallon and others.

Former Eastern Michigan University student Orange Taylor III faces four counts stemming from the death of Laura Dickinson, 22, whose body was found in her dorm room, naked from the waist down and with a pillow covering her face.

Taylor is charged with open murder, which means that the panel can convict him of first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder or lesser homicide charges of second-degree murder or manslaughter. He faces life in prison without parole if convicted of premeditated murder.

Washtenaw County prosecuting attorney Blaine Longsworth said that Taylor — despite his best efforts — was unable to completely cover his tracks when he left room 518 in Hill Hall room after having sex with Dickinson and then suffocating her.

Jurors in the five-day trial heard extensive testimony about trace evidence in the room that forensic examiners matched to Taylor, including sperm on Dickinson’s leg and bedspread. A fiber analyst also testified that black acrylic fibers found on Dickinson’s body were consistent with material from a sweatshirt found in Taylor’s home.

There would have been more of Taylor’s DNA on Dickinson, Longsworth said, if the man hadn’t made sure to ejaculate outside of her and take her panties. Taylor also took Dickinson’s keys so he could lock her door from the outside, Longsworth said.

But defense lawyer Alvin Keel said Dickinson was already dead when Taylor entered her room. His “unfortunate” reaction, according to Keel, was to masturbate on her.

“It may be despicable, it may be perverse. In street vernacular, it may be somewhat freaky,” said Keel, while several members of the audience squirmed in their seats and cast bewildered glances at one another. “But does that make it murder? No.”

Cassin also testified that Dickinson died of asphyxiation, either from strangulation or suffocation, though he could not say which.

Her body was found lying face-up next to her bed with a pile of blankets underneath her and a pillow on her face. Her feet were facing the headboard and her head was toward the bottom of the bed.

A used tampon was also found thrown across the otherwise tidy room.

“Is Laura Dickinson, as she is dying of this so-called heart attack, going to pull out her tampon and toss it across the floor?” Longsworth asked. “There’s simply no way on earth this would have happened if she had died in bed of a heart attack.”

A murder suspect is getting support from religious leaders, as he heads back to trial. He’s about to be re-tried for the murder of an EMU student. FOX 2’s Robin Schwartz has more on a vigil held Sunday night for Orange Taylor.

I really wish someone would have driven their car into this “vigil”. Detroit Serial Rapist At Large

DETROIT — A man who allegedly raped two women and attempted to rape a third in a 24-hour period Saturday is on the loose, Detroit police said.

The man attacked his first victim, a 17-year-old, at 12:30 a.m. while she was waiting for the bus at 6 Mile and Goulburn roads on Detroit’s northeast side.

Police said the man forced the victim into his vehicle, a black, four-door, Jeep Cherokee and drove her to the area of Cameron Road and E. State Fair Street and sexually assaulted her.

The second attack took place at 4:30 p.m. but the teen was able to escape. A 16-year-old girl was walking in the area of Cameron Road and E. State Fair Street, but she was able to flag down a motorist passing by before being sexually attacked, said police.

About an hour later, a 12-year-old girl, who was walking in the area of Caldwell and Luce roads, was forced into the black Jeep and raped, police said. After the assault, the girl was dropped off on the 13000 block of Syracuse Street.

The man is described as black, 18 to 20 years old, 6 feet tall and weighing between 200 and 250 pounds. The victims said he has brown eyes, a large black Afro, light skin, a beard and has a large build.

Detroit Police said they have increased patrols in the area and questioned nearby residents, but they still have not identified the man or located his vehicle.

Police to investigate rape case response

FLINT - The Flint Police Department is opening an investigation to determine if a rape case reported at Hurley Medical Center was mishandled.

The Detroit Free Press reported today that a 13-year-old Flint girl told staff at Flint’s Hurley Medical Center she was gang raped by six men Saturday in Detroit. But when hospital staff called Detroit Police to report the crime, they were told to call Flint police, Dr. Manya Newton of Hurley told the Free Press.

According to the newspaper report, Flint police Sgt. Brett Bell said the case would have to be handled by Detroit officers because the crime happened in their jurisdiction.

But acting Flint police Chief Gary S. Hagler told The Flint Journal today that there is no officer named Brett Bell at his department and he is not sure what happened on Saturday.

Hagler said his officers would have been able to go the hospital to retain evidence and get preliminary information on the crime for the Detroit police.

He plans on investigating the incident to see if there was a breakdown in communication or if the case was handled improperly.

“The goal is to aid victims of crime,” he said. “We want to make sure no one falls through the cracks.”

According to the Free Press, the girl came to Hurley about 9 p.m. Saturday with her mother. She told Newton she had met a man on the Internet and traveled to Detroit to meet him. The girl said the man dropped her off at a house where six men raped her at gunpoint.

She was able to eventually leave the house and call her mother, who picked her up and took her to Hurley, the newspaper reported.

The Free Press reported that Newton complained to the hospital director about the situation and early Sunday morning two state police troopers came and picked up the rape kit.

What really happened…..

In December of 2006 Laura Dickinson was found naked in her dorm at Eastern Michigan University in a Sexual Position.  There were no signs of forced entry.   Laura’s death was initially ruled “natural causes” by the country coroner and the circumstances surrounding her death were covered up by the school.  (Eastern Michigan has been fined hundreds of thousands of dollars as a result of being found guilty of violating the federal “cleary act” which requires schools to report crime on campuses.)

Months after Laura Dickinson’s death an arrest was made in the case.  This surprised not only the community, who had forgotten about the incident, but also even her parents who were not told the truth about her demise.  The case lost a lot of steam because Laura’s parents assumed her death was caused by heart problems she was still dealing with.

Orange Taylor “the third” was arrested in Southfield after a warrant was served  on his parent’s home.  Orange Taylor is a former student who had a prior drug arrest and had also been involved in a past incident on campus where he had been caught breaking into an all female dorm after hours.

Orange Taylor was charged with an open count of murder and first degree criminal sexual conduct, along with a count of larceny.

The strongest evidence in the case was Orange Taylor’s DNA at the scene which was recovered as a result of his semen being present on her dead body.  Taylor was also seen on a Security Camera leaving with items from Laura’s Dorm Room.

As the trial progressed Taylor (or his lawyer) came up with a rather unusual explanation for his involvement in the death of Laura Dickinson. Taylor says he arrived at the dorm to attend a party and found Laura Dickinson unconscious on the floor of her empty dorm room.  He proceeded to have sex with her dead body and claims he ejaculated onto the top of her after he was done, he than proceeded to steal some items from the room and leave the premises.

Expert witnesses testified that it appeared that a struggle had ensued in the room, most importantly the sheets on Laura’s bed which were pulled off the side as if she was grasping for them while being dragged off.

In the end apparently his explanation was good enough for TWO black jurors who decided that “there wasn’t enough evidence” to convict him of anything….anything.

This nigger was supposed to face a re-trial in January but it has been moved to March 31st as a result of his lawyer quitting. (guilty conscience?)

Boy Claims Man Accosted Him

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Farmington Hills police are investigating an incident where a 14-year-old boy claims a man attempted to accost him.

The boy told police it happened on Eleven Mile Road, just west of Inkster Road as he was walking to Harrison High School around 8:30 a.m. after missing the bus.

The boy told police he was approached and offered a ride by a man in a silver sport utility vehicle or mini-van.

After he got into the vehicle, the driver asked him some personal questions about having a girlfriend and other questions of sexual nature. The man then asked the student to expose himself, police said.

The student got out of the vehicle and ran off and the vehicle drove off eastbound on Eleven Mile Road, police said.

The driver, described as a black male in his 30s, short and chubby, with short, unbrushed hair and dark complexion, never touched the boy, police said.

The boy told police the man spoke with some type of African accent.

The vehicle was described as a silver SUV or minivan with tinted rear windows and a wheelchair in the back.

“We are asking the community to keep its eyes open and call us with any information which may help us identify this suspect. This type of thing can happen anywhere,” said Farmington Hills Police Chief William Dwyer.

“Lets just remind kids that sexual predators are out there,” said Dwyer.

Trial Off Till March 31 for Suspect in EMU Student’s Rape-Slaying

YPSILANTI, Mich. — A Washtenaw County judge has postponed the trial of a man accused of raping and strangling a fellow Eastern Michigan University student so his new public defender can prepare.

The Ann Arbor News says Laura Graham took over from public defender Alvin Keel. Graham asked Judge Archie Brown to postpone the trial, and Brown reset it from January 28 to March 31.

Twenty-one-year-old Orange Taylor III is charged with murder in the December 2006 slaying of 22-year-old Laura Dickinson. His first jury deadlocked.

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Eastern Michigan University students who returned from Winter Break are on alert after learning about another attack on a student.

EMU police are investigating a report of an attempted robbery and sexual assault on the campus on Friday.

A Munson Hall resident told police that a man entered the residence closely behind her on Saturday and attacked her in the northeast stairwell.

“She probably just thought the guy lived here—then he asked for money and assaulted her,” said EMU Freshman Jenny Cooper.

The woman told police the man grabbed her groin and her breasts and demanded money. She said she fell to the ground in a fetal position and told the attacker she would start screaming if he didn’t leave her alone.

Police said the suspect fled the area on foot and they have not been able to find him.

School officials alerted the campus of the incident by sending out emails.

The victim described the alleged attacker as a clean-shaven, black man, 6 feet tall and weighing 185 pounds. She said he had rimless glasses and a black hooded sweatshirt.
